Next Steps After An Adoption Is Finalized

BOOK YOUR CALL

So you’ve gone through the adoption process, and have finally completed your adoption. This is no small feat. Congratulations are in order.

But now that the adoption is finalized, there is one more thing you need to do before you kick back and relax: your estate plan.

YOUR ESTATE PLAN

Now that the child is legally adopted, the next step is to make sure that you have a Last Will and Testament. This is the most important estate plan document to prepare right now because it allows you to choose who you would want to take care of your child if you were to pass away.

Your Last Will and Testament also allows you to choose who you would like your property to go to when you pass away. After an adoption, if you don’t have a Last Will and Testament prepared, the State will decide who will be the guardian for your child.

Although it seems like another “thing” to do, an estate plan provides peace of mind that your child is completely secure, no matter what happens to you.
