Can a Stepparent Adoption Be Reversed?!?
BOOK YOUR CALL
I have had a few inquiries about stepparent adoption reversal and wanted to address those inquiries in this blog.
A stepparent adoption occurs when a stepparent adopts their stepchild. But what happens if a divorce occurs and the stepparent no longer has a good relationship with that child? Can he/she seek an adoption reversal?
An adoption reversal is not impossible, but is extremely difficult, because you will need to prove that you are longer able to care for the child in some way. The best option is to file for a guardianship of the child if you know of a capable and willing family member who will care for the child. Attempting to reverse an adoption will be futile and is highly frowned upon.
If you think that there is ever a time in the future that you might want to reverse an adoption, my recommendation would be to not start the adoption in the first place as this will impact the child negatively and will cause unnecessary harm.
